I have gone waaay passed the days when I use only my bare fingers to apply my eyeshadow (uhhuh.... been there done that) After getting familiar with makeup, I learn that I shouldn't apply eyeshadow with my fingers or basically anything else other than a makeup brush because it affects the outcome. I listened.
I almost forget on how wonderful a sponge tip applicator can be. YES, I almost forget. I almost forget that in the beginning of my early years playing with makeup I use only FINGERS and occasionally a sponge tip applicators. Yeap, just the two.
A lot of people getting snobbish by saying " why would a makeup company includes a sponge tip applicator when everyone would just throw them away?" They are there for a purpose.. For drugstore brand a sponge tip applicator transform your makeup!

As wonderful as a brush can may be it will never be able to beat sponge tip applicator in terms of packing on and transferring colours that are less pigmented. I was reminded about this when I want to create a look with my Acid palette. I wasted hours hoping to get a bright and vibrant colours but nothing would work. Even UDPP is not doing a good job in making the neon eyeshadow pop. In the end I decided to go back to sponge tip applicator given in the palette, without hoping much.
Believe it or not I get the colour payoff I wanted in minutes!!! Sponge tip applicator is my saviour. When someone tells you that sponge tip applicator does nothing for them maybe it is true or they are just being snobbish.. My point is, don't throw your sponge tip applicator. If you REALLY hate it. Give them to me
.
Don't get me wrong, brushes are amazing. They are my the one tools for doing smokey eyes but when it comes to neon or eyeshadow that are harder to work with, sponge tip applicator wins.
Based on my experience playing with makeup, both are equally awesome depending on how, when and where you use them..
I guess that's all I can think of. If you can think of more differences do leave a comment!

agreed! from my opinion both have their best and worst! actually sponge tip applicator pick up pigmentation much more than eyeshadow brush...but eyeshadow brush helps blend eyeshadow much more easily! in either way, both are great! <3 but if you notice...our fingers it self can do both things! they pick up eyeshadow more (just like how we like to swatch eyeshadoe in stores) and can sometime help blend the eyeshadow...!
Gee, I never realized that I've never used an eyeshadow brush EVER. I'm yearning for one, but am having second thoughts after reading your post. Sometimes I use a somewhat wet finger to apply eyeshadow though. It makes the colors last longer.
Sabrina: Yes! fingers are the most convenient makeup tools! ;p I love applying my foundation with fingers than brush or sponge :D
Giddy Tigress: Certain brush can be useful :) Like blending brush. ahh I never try to wet my fingers and use it to apply eyeshadow, maybe I should try that with my pigments to see if it works. :) Thanks for the tips!!
really nice post! :) i want to use sponges again hehe

Thanks for sharing this tip!!! I always throw away my sponge applicator because many times they were not useful to me. And I decided permanently on using brushes. Now that I read your tips, I am going to try out the sponge applicator.
agree with you! I used to use sponge because it came with it back when I was in highschool, now I use the brushes and good brushes do make a hugeee difference!
aMz88: Try it out!:D
Jerine: Happy that the tips somehow help :D I decided to use brushes permanently as well. but when it comes to neons, or drugstore brand sponge tip is the best :)

Thanks..
I use my fingers all the time :) some of the sponge applicators just drops off straight away
Omg I luv using sponge tips way better....and oh yes I can blend! I get good comments all day long working at a bank ;). I like to use brushes on other ppl because they expect u too and they work well. But for myself sponge tips for sure! Luv ur post :)
Hi anonymous!
Yes I am loving sponge tip applicator now too!!! XD So much easy to work with!!! :)
Thank you for dropping by :)
I used to use sponge applicators ALL the time. But when I became more experienced with makeup, i started using brushes. And the reason being is that most of the sponge applicators i used came from the eye shadow palettes i buy. And apparently, those didn't work out because there was a flat little piece inside of the sponge and whenever i used them, it kept wiggling. And if i accidently brushed it too hard on my eyelids, the sponge riped apart. But there WERE some applicators that worked perfectly fine, so i still use them. They definitely pick up a lot of clor. So i guess it depends on what type of sponge applicator it is. Anyways, brilliant post. :}]
