After graduated Form 5 in 2005 (pleaase do NOT do the math!) I visited countless Education Fair with the hope of finding a suitable college to further my studies. If I could re-do 2005 all over again (except sitting for SPM exam of course!) I think I would spend more time on planning a career path and then choose a suitable college rather than the other way round.
Coming from a small town, there were not many career talk held back then. Things are different now, not only it is so easy to find information, the Prime Minister’s Department even set up TalentCorp on 1 January 2011 to formulate and facilitate initiatives to address the availability of talent.
On 12 November, TalentCorp hosted a Sector Focus Career Fair (SFCF) at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM). This was held to create exposure and attract Malaysian graduates to pursue an exciting career with the fast growing shared services sector. The event was supported by more than 30 companies, such as AIG, DHL, Electrolux, Frost & Sullivan, GlaxoSmithKline, HP, IBM, LaFarge, Sime Darby and PwC.
There were two main agendas during the event, Career Talks and also Couch Corner Slot. During Career Talks, young generation were given opportunity to engage with prominent industry leaders while the Couch Corner Slot was designed for the visitors, especially students, to interact with the companies in a relaxed atmosphere.
For me, highlight of the event have to be the golden opportunity for undergraduates or student to be able to meet with CEOs and senior HR representatives of participating companies. They will be exposed to these developing sector in Malaysia and have better understanding on sectoral branding and increase understanding of the shared services and outsourcing sector. Not mentioning the opportunities of being scouted!
